NOTE:
We are being forced to raise prices for the 2024 season and we are changing the ways we handle Canadian payments. Here are the 3 reasons:
1) Inflation has hit Mexico, as it has everywhere else. Restaurants, RV Parks, wages etc have risen over 15% this year. The minimum wage went up 25% and all employers now have to put employees, including domestics, onto social security (medical, etc) This has really jacked up our costs.
2) The Mexican Peso used to follow the Canadian dollar up and down against the US dollar. This has changed over the last year (due to interest rate differences. The Peso has gained a lot of strength against both currencies, but especially the Canadian dollar, which now trades around 14.5, whereas it was 17 in 2021. It has gained a peso against the USD as well. This has forced us to make the decision to only price our trips in USD for the upcoming season. We still accept Canadian dollars at the book rate which at least means no buy-sell rate hit. When Canadians pay Canadian dollars, they will be credited in USD at the going rate when they make a payment. This saves them 3% and they can save an addition 3% by paying in cash, check or e-transfer .Canadian customers who make a deposit before Dec 31st, 2022 are on our old system, and have the advantage of being subject to whichever method is to their benefit..
3) The price of next years trips will be the same as this years for those who make deposits before Dec 31st, 2022. Some trips will be longer than this years to meet the Solar Eclipse so the prices will be about $50 US a day for the additional days.
Prices go up Jan 1st by 5% , with 2 more increases during 2023. You fix your price by making a deposit. You can check out our 2024 pricing page at https://www.mexicocaravans.com/prices2024.html (opens in new window)
Prices are PER RIG and based on 2 people. note that 2024 trips will be going up due to inflation in Mexico as is the case elsewhere. We estimate about 5-10% but will aim for 5%. This may be especially noticeable with Canadian prices due to the recent drop in value of the Canadian dollar against the USD and the Peso. We suspect this will only be fairly short lived and we will lower the final Canadian price at final payment time if it has recovered. For 2023 trips we will retain the current Canadian pricing listed below as a maximum. CANADIAN PRICES MAY BE LOWER THAN POSTED. PUT AMERICAN PRICE INTO WIDGET, YOUR MAXIMUM PRICE WILL NOT BE HIGHER THAN THAT VALUE, (at the time you pay a deposit - we accept Canadian funds).
Note on our pricing: Increasing overhead in Mexico has necessitated a price increase for this season. It will not increase for those who already made a deposit. Canadian prices are based on approximately an exchange rate of 72.5 cents as of Sept 30th. If the Canadian dollar rises by final payment date we will adjust the Canadian final payments down accordingly.
If you compare us with our competitors, you will find that we cost more (except for fantasy). It is hard to compare as routes and times vary, but generally speaking, our overhead is higher as we provide more services and included activities. We do not blindside with "optionals".
1) Compare the number of local tours and meals included (as opposed to optional). We provide more high quality meals. We do not cheap out.
2) We use fully qualified bilingual tour guides for our tours. Some even have Phd's. We do not rely on our Wagon Masters to provide local tours.
3) Some of our competitors do not use (mechanic) tailgunners. We utilize the Green Angels on many, if not most segments. They are similar to AAA. We have an inside track to call them, when we are not using them.
4) We are based in Mexico and we speak Spanish. If someone breaks down and we have to leave them, in a worst case scenario we can call on one of our many bilingual tour guides to assist, and then use the Green Angels to catch you up with the caravan.
5) We have the connections with the police to deal with any problems involving them.
6) We are the only company technically operating legally in Mexico. We pay Mexican taxes which can amount to about 16%. We do have some ways to offset some of those and keep costs lower.

Canadians
Canadians are used to getting blindsided on changing exchange rates for companies who price in US Dollars. Well, we have good news. Our company has a lot of Canadian customers, even more than American if you count our French tours. What we do is set our prices in US dollars, so as not to confuse our American friends who are used to that method.
We set Canadian prices according to our US price. At the 50% payment time and final payment time we may adjust them down, but never up. We also discount payments by e-transfer or check by 3%.
In other words, your price will not increase.
You may pay in either Canadian or US Dollars, you do not have to take a frustrating loss due to Buy and Sell rates. Once you have made your initial deposit, you are also protected against any price increases we may impose during the year.
Conversion tool:
Enter the price in US Dollars: If Canadian dollar has gone up significantly by final payment date, we will adjust. (Note this tool was way out at least one time in the past, so don't take it as gospel.)
